A gas explosion struck a bed and breakfast in Rome’s Monteverde area on Sunday morning, leading to a partial collapse of the building. A 54-year-old Scottish tourist was severely injured and is currently in critical condition, suffering from severe burns covering 70% of his body. Local firefighters rescued him from the rubble after the explosion, which witnesses described as sounding like a bomb. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri suggested the blast was likely caused by a gas leak, possibly from a cylinder, and ordered a comprehensive investigation. Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution, though no additional injuries were reported.
