Ukraine and Russia have reportedly agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea following U.S.-mediated discussions in Saudi Arabia. The deal aims to prevent military engagement in commercial shipping lanes and reduce tensions in the region.
As part of the agreement, both sides have also pledged to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure for 30 days, starting March 18. However, Russia has linked its compliance to the easing of Western sanctions, particularly in the agricultural and financial sectors.
While the U.S. is reviewing Moscow’s demands, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains cautious, warning against concessions that could weaken the West’s position. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the initiative, seeing it as a step toward stability and improved global food security.
